New Grand Prairie IKEA looking to hire 300 workers

Swedish retailer IKEA has hired contractors for a Grand Prairie store planned to open in fall 2017.

IKEA’s new Dallas-Fort Worth area store in Grand Prairie is in recruitment stages and looking to add approximately 300 positions, the company announced Wednesday, Aug. 2.

An additional D-FW location in Fort Worth is planned to open summer 2019.

According to a company news release, positions will be open in the following departments: home furnishings sales, interior design/visual merchandising, customer service, safety and security, cashiers, facility management, warehouse receiving, stock replenishment, and child play area supervision.

Something different from a typical retail company is that IKEA also offers about 60 food service opportunities in its restaurant, Swedish Foodmarket, Exit Bistro and coworker cafeteria.

Those interested can apply for any of the positions online at www.seeacareerwithus.com. The release stated that jobs posted online will periodically change based timing and necessity.

“We are thrilled to offer interested jobseekers diverse positions with limitless opportunity at a global company known for being a great place to work,” said store manager Matt Hunsicker, in the release. “IKEA offers a variety of positions for different coworkers’ interests so they can enjoy their job and contribute successfully. We believe it is as fun to work at IKEA as it is to shop at IKEA.”

The new 290,000-square-foot shop will be the second in the D-FW area for the company, opening along the eastern side of State Highway 161 and Mayfield Road, north of Interstate-20.

The Grand Prairie location will offer 1,100 parking spaces and include one of Texas’ largest retail solar rooftops, the release stated.

In addition to a 450-seat restaurant to serve both Swedish specialties and American dishes, the store will feature almost 10,00 exclusive items, 50 room-settings, three model home interiors and a supervised children’s play area.

IKEA offers full medical/dental insurance to coworkers working 20+ hours per week with eligibility for employees’ partners and children. Other benefits include up to four months of paid parental leave, vacation, paid time off for child adoption, tuition assistance, 401(k) matching, a pension plan, professional development, training and mentoring programs, and more.

Known as the world’s leading home furnishing retailer, IKEA was voted by coworkers as a Great Place to Work on the ‘Fortune 20 Best Retail Workplaces’ list, received a 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2016 Corporate Equality Index, and was listed as #3 on Forbes’ list of “Happiest Retailers to Work For,” the release reported.
