Boards & Organizations The Community Foundation of North Texas elected Michael Appleman and William W. Meadows to its board. Appleman, partner at Cantey Hanger LLP in Fort Worth, has helped clients plan their estates, probate wills and administer estates since joining the firm in 1993. He serves on the firm’s management committee and is vice chairman of the Tax Practice Group. Appleman sits on the Fort Worth Club Board of Governors, Tarrant Area Food Bank Full Plate Advisory Council, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School Board of Visitors and the Van Cliburn Foundation Inc. board. Meadows, now chairman emeritus, served Hub International Insurance Services as executive vice president and member of the executive committee for almost 30 years. Meadows currently sits on the board of DFW International Airport, is chairman of the North Texas High Speed Rail Commission, and was commissioner of the Texas Transportation Commission from 2008-2013. Meadows served as a Fort Worth city council member and mayor pro-tem, and in organizations including the Trinity Improvement Association, Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, Fort Worth Country Day School, Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, Streams and Valleys Inc., United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County, University of North Texas Health Science Center, and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. Engineering & Construction Barron, Stark & Swift Consulting Engineers LP, a member of The Barron Companies Inc., added Craig Alexander as a project manager and Jaime Rodriguez to head up its hydrology division. Alexander’s emphasis will be on pipeline, municipal water, and sewer and residential subdivision development. Rodriguez is currently completing his master’s degree in hydraulics and hydrology, and will serve as a project manager.
Honors & Awards Judge Brent Carr, who presides over Tarrant County Criminal Court #9, received the Silver Patrick Henry Award from the Fort Worth Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars. Carr was cited for his participation in drafting Senate Bill 1940 establishing the Veterans Diversion Program. The legislation was passed by the Texas State Legislature in 2009. Richard Whitman, vice president of mortgage lending for Mansfield-based Texas Trust Credit Union was honored by the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce with three community awards. Whitman was recognized for Man of the Year for his service to the community; Branding Iron of the Year as an outstanding ambassador for the chamber; and Community Award for Outstanding Service presented by Children First Counseling Center. Whitman has been a member of the chamber since joining Texas Trust in 2006. United Way of Tarrant County received the Award of Distinction for Community Service from the College of Public Affairs and Community Service at the University of North Texas. United Way received the honor along with the United Ways of Denton County and Metropolitan Dallas.

Aldous, who brings more than 25 years of civil litigation experience, focuses on intellectual property, investment disputes and serious personal injury cases. His trial record includes cases involving claims for breach of contract, theft of trade secrets, professional negligence, securities fraud, patent and trademark infringement, employment liability, product liability, insurance disputes, adversarial bankruptcy proceedings, class-action defense, and real estate fraud. He has argued cases before the Texas and Alaska Supreme Courts, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 5th and 10th Circuits, and appellate courts throughout Texas.
Manufacturing Global electronics distributor TTI Inc. promoted 21-year veteran Mike Wood to vice president of corporate product management and supplier marketing. Wood, who had been the director of product management, assumes responsibility for TTI’s cornerstone products, capacitors and resistors. During his tenure at TTI, Wood has had management positions for strategic account services and managed warehouse operations in Mexico before transitioning to the corporate product department in 2007.
Real Estate TIG opened a Fort Worth office called TIG Metroplex West. Karen Simon, formerly of Bradford, joined the firm as president and principal. Bavier appointed UTA nursing dean The University of Texas at Arlington named Anne Bavier, a nationally recognized health care leader who has had posts at top ranked universities and at the National Institutes of Health, as the new dean of the College of Nursing. Bavier will join the university on Aug. 1. Bavier previously served as dean of the University of Connecticut School of Nursing and as dean of nursing at Saint Xavier University in Chicago. She is president-elect of the National League for Nursing, which includes more than 39,000 members. Bavier will oversee the merger of UTA’s Department of Kinesiology into the College of Nursing during the 2014-2015 academic year. The combined college will include nearly 350 faculty members. She earned her nursing degree from Duke University, a master’s degree in nursing from Emory University, where she specialized in oncology, and her doctorate from Duquesne University. Bavier worked as a program director in the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute and as deputy director of the Office of Research on Women’s Health in the National Institutes of Health. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the Institute of Medicine of Chicago and was the first recipient of the Edith Moore Copeland Award for Excellence in Creativity from Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She also received a Director’s Award from the National Institutes of Health for exceptional leadership in creating the Research Enhancement Awards Program.
