Newsmakers: Awards for TRWD

HONORS & AWARDS

Two Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) departments recently received national awards of excellence in their respective fields.

The accounting department was awarded the Certificate of Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting for fiscal year 2017 by the Government Finance Officers Association. This is the third straight year that TRWD has received this certificate, which is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and represents a significant accomplishment by a government agency and its management.

In July, TRWD’s purchasing department received the 2018 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute. This award recognizes organizational excellence in public and nonprofit procurement. This is second straight year the purchasing department has received this award.

LAW

Cynthia Hill and Matt Motes, both Decker Jones shareholders, have been recognized for their leadership in the prestigious Eldon B. Mahon American Inn of Court Organization. The Mahon Inn of Court recognizes attorneys based on their “superior character, ability and competence as trial or appellate advocates and federal, state and local judges.” It is designed to improve the skills, professionalism and legal ethics of the bench and bar.

Hill was recently elected to the Inn of Court Executive Committee, as well as the Chair of the Inn of Court High School Mock Trial Committee. Motes was one of only three non-judicial attorneys named a Master of the Bench of the Inn of Court.

Motes specializes in construction law and is president and chief operating officer of Decker Jones. Hill specializes in employment law and regulatory matters at various governmental levels. She is the chief development officer at Decker Jones.

The National Diversity Council has named Leslie Darby one of the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Law in the Dallas region. The organization’s “Dallas Top 50 Women Lawyers Award” recognizes female attorneys who “have made a difference through their achievements and exemplify the ability to excel in the legal arena.”

Darby is a partner at Kelly Hart & Hallman LLP, where she focuses her practice on brand management, including the procurement, protection, enforcement and management of domestic and international trademark rights. Darby will receive her award at the annual Legal Diversity Week’s Top 50 Women Lawyers Breakfast on Sept. 25 in Dallas.

NONPROFIT

Leslie Hall has rejoined Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth. She began with Lighthouse in February of 2013 as head of client services. She left the organization in August 2016 for family reasons and after a two-year break has returned as head of client services with a client services team. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University in sociology and English and a master’s degree from Texas Tech University in rehabilitation counseling.
