Fort Worth names new director for library
An executive with the Washington, D.C., Public Library, Manya Shorr, has been named director of the Fort Worth Library. She will begin work in Fort Worth on Sept. 5, succeeding Library Director Gleniece Robinson, who is retiring.
“We’re delighted that Manya Shorr has agreed to serve as our next library director,” said Assistant City Manager Fernando Costa. “She has an excellent reputation among her peers in the library world and has certainly impressed us with her leadership skills, her broad vision for the future of our library system and her ability to think critically about how libraries can help us in addressing a wide range of local issues.”
Shorr has been director of public services for the library system in the nation’s capital since September 2014. She has managed all aspects of public service delivery and has been responsible for the experience offered in 25 branches and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. She has managed the Collections and Programs and Partnership departments and has been part of a budget team that decided library spending.
Previously, she was a supervisor at the Omaha Public Library and the Sacramento Public Library and worked at the Multnomah County Library in Portland, Oregon.
Shorr holds a master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is certified by the American Library Association.
Led by Managing Partner Darien George, Fort Worth-based Mackenzie Eason & Associates conducted the search that resulted in Shorr’s hiring.
AWARDS & HONORS
The University of North Texas has been named one of America’s Best Midsize Employers for 2017 by Forbes Media, in partnership with Statista, a statistics database and consumer research firm in Germany.
UNT is ranked No. 25 out of 301 employers in the nation and fourth in the education category. The designation highlights top employers that have between 1,000 and 5,000 workers whose employees feel “happy, inspired and well-compensated.”

GOVERNMENT
Cedar Hill Mayor Rob Franke will preside over the Regional Transportation Council for the next year after being elected chairman of the 44-member transportation policymaking body for the Dallas-Fort Worth area in June.
Franke succeeds Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen, who served as chairman over the past year. Tarrant County Commissioner Gary Fickes is the new vice chairman and Denton County Commissioner Andy Eads was named secretary.
HEALTH CARE
The Methodist Mansfield Medical Center Wound Care Center has named Dr. Ike Nwabude medical director of the center. Nwabude is responsible for reviewing patient care and results and for providing oversight and guidance on procedures and policies. He is a graduate of the University of Nigeria, where he earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees.
AngMar Medical Holdings Inc. of Mansfield has named Anthony “Tony” P. Miller as its chief operating officer. Miller will be responsible for the continued expansion, growth and financial health of all of AngMar Medical Holdings and its affiliated Angels Care Home Health businesses.
LAW
Nick Gerner has joined Bourland, Wall & Wenzel as associate attorney. Gerner is a summa cum laude graduate from Texas A&M University School of Law. His practice focuses on commercial real estate law.
NONPROFITS
Ann Sheets is celebrating 40 years with Camp Fire First Texas in June. Sheets, who is president and CEO of the council, has been a part of Camp Fire since childhood, beginning as a Blue Bird and later earning the WoHeLo Medallion as a youth member. She joined the council’s staff as El Tesoro camp director. She then served as assistant executive director of outdoor programs and facilities and as senior vice president of administration and finance. As president and CEO of Camp Fire First Texas, Sheets heads one of the largest and most active Camp Fire councils in the nation.
