Texas Christian University’s board of trustees recently elected Mark L. Johnson, a board member since 2002, to be chairman, succeeding Clarence Scharbauer III, whose term ends May 31.
TCU noted that the highlights of Scharbauer’s tenure include the school’s entrance into the Big 12 Conference; the Intellectual Commons on the east side of the campus, featuring the newly renovated Mary Couts Burnett Library and Rees-Jones Hall; and the partnership to establish the TCU and University of North Texas Health Science Center School of Medicine.
Johnson earned a degree in economics from Duke University and is a principal and portfolio manager with Luther King Capital Management in Fort Worth. He is a chartered financial analyst, a chartered investment counselor and a member of the CFA Society of Dallas-Fort Worth.
Johnson is president of the Amon G. Carter Foundation and vice president of the board of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. He recently chaired the TCU board’s committee to build the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena. He is a sustainer of the Addison & Randolph Clark Society and a member of the Chancellor’s Council.
Kit Tennison Moncrief, a Fort Worth community leader, was elected vice chairman of the board. She is president of the board of directors of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, co-chairman of the Fort Worth Zoo board and vice president of the board of trustees of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation, among others.

hires VP of development
Communities in Schools of Greater Tarrant County Inc. has hired Cory Henderson as its vice president of development, the organization announced.
He previously was director of development for the Recovery Resource Council. He also worked in donor relations at the United Way of Tarrant County.
Henderson is a native of Beaumont and a political science graduate of Texas Christian University. He is involved in Leadership Fort Worth’s Leading Edge program and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, and has held various volunteer appointments in Fort Worth City Council District 6, the organization said in a news release.
Henderson joins the Communities in Schools staff as Mike Steele, founding president and chief executive officer, announced his May retirement. Lindsey Garner has been named to succeed Steele.
Steele will be honored at Communities in Schools’ 25th anniversary fundraising gala on May 12 at Ridglea Country Club.
Communities in Schools of Greater Tarrant County is placed in 57 schools across nine Tarrant County school districts, serving students identified by their schools as most at-risk of dropping out.

Texas Wesleyan University’s athletic director, Steve Trachier, has announced the appointment of Ricky Dotson as associate athletic director. Dotson will assist Trachier in all matters of athletic administration. Trachier is also taking on the position of head women’s basketball coach. Dotson joins Trachier and Kevin Millikan, associate athletic director and head women’s golf coach, in directing the university’s athletic department.

Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed Duane Lock of Southlake to a position on the Commission on Jail Standards for a term set to expire Jan. 31, 2021. Lock is president and strategic leader for River Oaks Energy in Dallas. He previously was director of product development at TXU Energy. He is a former board member for the Fort Worth Boys & Girls Club.
