Newsmakers: Weaver adds HSSK

ACCOUNTING

National certified public accounting firm Weaver has announced a merger with the dispute, litigation and valuation firm HSSK LLC, expanding Weaver’s ability to provide forensic accounting, investigation, litigation support and valuation services to clients.

Three partners and more than 20 other professionals from HSSK joined Weaver as part of the Financial Advisory Services practice.

Jared Jordan, CFE, who will lead Weaver’s expanded Forensics and Litigation Services practice. Formerly a managing director at HSSK, Jared has 20 years of experience assisting clients with the financial aspects of disputes and investigations. Jordan is on the Advisory Council for the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Curt Germany Jr., CVA, – – who will lead Weaver’s Valuation Services practice. Formerly a managing director at HSSK, he has more than two decades of experience in valuation, mergers and acquisitions; corporate finance advisory; and private equity investments with an emphasis on middle-market companies.

Mike Hill Jr., FASA, CPA, ABV, – who will be a partner in the Valuation Services practice. His 28 years of experience include valuations for estate planning, tax compliance, financial reporting, corporate planning, ESOPs, divorce and corporate disputes, and fairness/solvency opinions. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Appraisers, has served on the ASA board of governors, and is a past chairman of the ASA’s Business Valuation Committee.

Jacob M. Monty, managing partner at Houston-based law firm Monty & Ramirez LLP – was recently voted onto the board of directors of the Texas Association of Business.

Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed Jeff Beeson, DO, to the Correctional Managed Health Care Committee for a term set to expire on Feb, 1, 2021. The committee coordinates the development of statewide policies for the delivery of correctional health care in the criminal justice system. Beeson, of Crowley, is the chief medical officer of the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He is the medical director of Texas Task Force 1 and a board member of the Texas EMS and Trauma Foundation. He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, National Association of EMS Physicians, and the National Association of EMTs. Beeson has an associate degree in nursing from Southwestern Adventist College and a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the UNTHSC Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine specializing in emergency medicine.

EDUCATION

Jim Vaszauskas, superintendent in the Mansfield Independent School District since 2013, plans to retire in February, he announced on June 20.

Vaszauskas, better known as “Dr. V.” joined the district in May of 2009 as the associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction and served in that position for three and a half years..

Vaszauskas earned his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, his master’s from Texas Wesleyan University and his doctorate in educational leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University. He holds lifetime certification by the State Board for Educator Certification in English, health and physical education.

He is president of the Mansfield Sunrise Rotary Club, is a member of the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce board and the MISD Education Foundation Board, and is president-elect of the Methodist Mansfield Medical Center Advisory

HEALTH CARE

Urgo Medical North America has added Allan Couch as director of regulatory affairs and quality assurance. He has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Missouri and an MBA from Pepperdine University.

HONORS & AWARDS

The Southlake-based IT company M3 Networks has been named one of the world’s top managed-services provider by Channel Futures, which creates the most comprehensive annual global ranking of MSPs. M3 Networks is recognized at Channel Futures’ MSP 501 2019 rankings.

Arlington-based communication agency PartnerComm Inc. won four International Association of Business Communicators Gold Quill Awards at the IABC World Conference held recently in Vancouver, Canada. PartnerComm won a Gold Quill Award of Excellence for a communication campaign produced for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Projects for AbbVie, Alliance Data and Cisco Systems were honored with Gold Quill Awards of Merit for communication campaigns and websites. PartnerComm also recently won two bronze 2019 Telly Awards in the Employee Communications category for outstanding video work.

Litigator Brad Timms has joined Underwood Law Firm in Fort Worth and will focus his practice on construction, business and insurance litigation. Timms has experience representing a wide range of clients in a variety of business and commercial cases in state and federal court. He previously worked with Phelps Dunbar in Southlake and Brackett & Ellis in Fort Worth. He received his law degree from Texas A&M School of Law in 2013 and his bachelor’s degree in political science in 2003 from Baylor University. He is a member of the Tarrant County Bar Association and Tarrant County Young Lawyers Association.
