Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission executive director resigns

🕐 1 min read

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The executive director of the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission is stepping down.

Constantin Rieger submitted his resignation on Friday as head of the commission. Commissioners plan to meet Wednesday to accept the resignation. The Oklahoman reports (http://bit.ly/1HFQWm2 ) that they also are expected to name an interim executive director and authorize the chairman to appoint a three-person committee to search for a successor.

Rieger became executive director in 2005, succeeding Gordon Hare who retired after 19 years as executive director. He previously had served 13 years as assistant director of Louisiana’s racing commission and worked six years as a thoroughbred trainer.

Commission Chairman Ran Leonard praised Rieger for his service. Leonard says Rieger has been an asset to the commission for more than 10 years.

Rieger’s resignation is effective Sept. 2.
