Mike Renfro joins Business Press team

Former Texas Christian University football fan-favorite and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Mike Renfro has joined the Collin County Business Press as director of business development. Renfro previously worked in business development for Fort Worth-based Quicksilver Resources Inc. His post-football career also includes more than 10 years in business development, sales and governmental relations for Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, where he was instrumental in bringing the Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships to the track in 2004. The Breeders’ Cup is an international event that features horse races with a combined $20 million in prize money. “We are extremely pleased to have an individual with the skills and experience of Mike Renfro join us at the Collin County Business Press,” said Jeff Hooper, vice president of marketing and sales. “Mike knows the people and the culture of the area, and he will help us to take our customer services to the highest level for our readers and advertisers.” Prominent members of the Renfro family have been catching footballs around North Texas since the early 1940s. Mike’s dad, Ray Renfro, and his uncle, Dean Renfro, starred at North Texas State University and for many more years in the National Football League. From 1952-1964, Ray Renfro was a four-time world champion all-pro wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns and was considered the fastest man in football. He also coached for the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys. He was the quarterback and receiver coach during Dallas’ first Super Bowl win in 1972. (Mike Renfro was the water boy for the Cowboys that season and wears his father’s Super Bowl ring today.) Dean Renfro played for the Baltimore Colts and was also the receivers’ coach at Texas Christian University during Mike’s playing days for the Horned Frogs. Mike’s two brothers played college football, and Clint Renfro, one of Mike’s two sons, was also a conference champion hurdler for the Frogs track team. Mike also had a nephew and two cousins play college football. After starring at Arlington Heights High School and TCU, Mike was chosen in the 1978 NFL draft by Bum Phillips and the Houston Oilers. Renfro caught balls from quarterback greats Dan Pastorini, Kenny Stabler and Archie Manning while a member of the Oilers. Renfro also was involved in one of the most controversial plays in NFL playoff history. A Pastorini pass to Renfro for an apparent touchdown in the 1980 championship game against the Pittsburg Steelers was incorrectly overturned and ruled not a catch, costing the Oilers a chance for victory and a trip to the Super Bowl. The play was cited as the impetus for league-wide instant replay in the NFL, which was instituted soon thereafter. In 1984, Renfro was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, where he played under head coach Tom Landry. Renfro was named team most valuable player after the 1985 season and played for the Cowboys until his retirement from the NFL in 1988.

Business Press adds Tommy Uhr to sales team

Tommy Uhr has joined the Collin County Business Press as an account executive. Uhr is owner of Austin-based Prequalprice LP, a developer of iOS applications for the Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod devices, aimed at the residential mortgage consumer and professional. He previously served as director of strategy at MaineToday Media, assisting in overall strategy, project management and financial analysis, especially in areas of real estate and finance. From 2004 to 2008, Uhr was a principal at Bongo Technologies, where he was responsible for financial reporting and budgeting as well as overall strategic planning and direction of the company. Prior to Bongo Technologies, he was a mortgage banker with CTX Mortgage in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Uhr received a bachelor’s degree in finance from UT Arlington.

Banking & Finance Tammy Foy has been appointed senior vice president and sales manager at Bank of Texas in Dallas. Foy will assist in the growth of the treasury management line of business in the Dallas-Fort Worth markets. She began her career with Bank One and completed the Treasury Management Sales Training Program. She spent 13 years as a treasury management sales officer at Bank One, in which she managed middle market and large corporate relationships nationwide. Foy has a bachelor of business administration degree in finance from Texas A&M University. David Haufler is Capital One’s new president of the Collin County/North Texas Market covering 20 counties. He is responsible for the design, development and implementation of an integrated community strategy for Capital One in Collin County and other parts of North Texas, working closely with Texarkana Area President Dianne Martin and East Texas Area President Jared Green. Based in Plano, Haufler also serves as vice president, program management for Capital One. Haufler joined Capital One in February 2012 following the company’s acquisition of the ING Direct business. He was responsible for ING Direct’s business planning and optimization efforts and directed the ING Direct integration management organization efforts associated with the acquisition. A native of Cincinnati, Haufler received bachelor’s degrees in management and accounting from Xavier University of Ohio and an master of business administration degree in finance and entrepreneurial development from Pennsylvania State University. He also attended the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, where he earned a post-graduate executive development recognition.

Boards & Organizations Sean Barrett, an associate at Wick Phillips law firm, has been named secretary of the French American Chamber of Commerce Dallas/Fort Worth. Barrett supports the firm’s growing corporate and finance practice, and promotes business development within Dallas’ French-speaking business community. Barrett, who is bilingual in French and English, spent more than three years practicing law in the Paris office of a Magic Circle law firm, where he represented a diverse international client base in connection with a variety of cross-border transactional matters. While in France, Barrett also passed the Paris bar examination and became licensed as a French attorney. Barrett received his bachelor’s degree in psychology with distinction from McGill University and his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. Bilingual since childhood, Barrett split his education between American and French schools in Dallas, Houston, Athens and Paris, and he is also proficient in Spanish and Greek. Texas Health Resources has merged its Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation and Texas Health Harris Methodist Foundation into a single organization renamed Texas Health Resources Foundation. James K. (Jay) McAuley, formerly president of Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation, has been named president of the new organization. The new foundation’s 18-member board of volunteer community leaders selected from the members of the boards of the merged foundations includes: Phillip Moroneso, chair; Brock Compton, vice chair; Carrol M. Health Care Will Windham is the new chief operating officer for Medical Center of McKinney. Prior to joining Medical Center of McKinney, Windham was the assistant COO and chief staffing officer for Hospital Corporation of America’s (HCA) Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. HCA is the parent company of Medical Center of McKinney. Windham also served as the associate administrator for HCA’s Strategic Resource Group and as the Administrative Fellow for HCA-HealthONE – Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colo. Windham received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in health care administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Honors & Awards The Kingdom of Morocco has appointed World Affairs Council President James N. Falk as its Honorary Consul for Texas. The selection was made by Morocco’s Foreign Ministry and announced by His Excellency Rachad Bouhlal, the Moroccan Ambassador to the United States. As the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Morocco, Falk will assist in raising the nation’s profile in Texas and enhancing communications for Texans and Moroccan officials and business and travel interests. Falk has been president and chief executive officer of the nonprofit, non-partisan World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth since 2001. Under his guidance, the council has enhanced its mission of increasing international connections and understanding between North Texas and the world. Mike Berry, coalition deputy chairman and president of Hillwood Properties, was inducted into the 2013 North Texas Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame on May 2. Berry was recognized for his work to develop the 17,000-acre master-planned community AllianceTexas. As president of Hillwood since 1988, Berry has directed all management, operations and transactions and has served as the company’s representative among public sector entities for the development. AllianceTexas encompasses nearly 32 million square feet, more than 300 corporate residents, 30,000 employees and more than 7,700 single-family homes. It has generated more than $40 billion in economic impact to North Texas. Berry and the Caroline Rose Hunt Family, which built Rosewood Hotel & Resort into a world-renowned luxury hotel management company, were the honorees this year. Susan Allan, an Edward Jones financial adviser, and Michelle Stepka, branch office administrator, both in Frisco, recently were ranked within the top 25 percent of the country for excellence in client service at Edward Jones. This is the second consecutive time this Edward Jones branch office received the Client Service Excellence award. Nine Methodist Health System nurses were among honorees named in the Dallas-Fort Worth Great 100 Nurses awards this year. Chosen from Methodist Dallas are Pamala Gessling, Grace Secrest Shield and Andrea Stegall. The honorees from Methodist Mansfield are Jason Brown, Ronda Higgins, Melissa Mitchell, Kathy Ripley and Janae Wesley. Tarah Grooms was selected from Methodist Richardson. They will be honored at a gala on May 8 at the Morton H. Myerson Symphony Center in Dallas. The Dallas Fort Worth Association Executives (DFWAE) named Dana Glazier, director of grant management at United Way of Tarrant County, as its 2013 Award of Excellence. She has been a member of DFWAE since 2004, participated on the conference planning committee in 2007, and became a member of the board in 2008. Glazier currently serves her second term as secretary. As an active participant in DFWAE, Glazier helped find a new content management system for the organization’s website, spearheaded membership research and set up Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. Three of Carrollton-based hospitality management company Magnolia Lodging LLC’s Homewood Suites by Hilton hotels won 14 awards, including the brand’s top award, Hotel of the Year for the Homewood Suites Dallas/Allen, at the 2012 Homewood Suites Awards Ceremony. The Homewood Suites by Hilton Dallas/Frisco won five awards, the Homewood Suites by Hilton Plano/Richardson won two awards, and the Homewood Suites by Hilton Dal las/Allen took home seven awards, including General Manager of the Year.
