Global investment firm TPG Capital hired Jon Winkelried as co-chief executive officer of TPG Holdings to help expand its growing investment platform.
Winkelried spent more than 27 years with Goldman Sachs Group Inc., becoming partner in 1990 and eventually retiring in 2009 as president and co-chief operating officer. He is an adviser to TPG’s special situations and credit platform, TPG Special Solutions. He also manages JW Capital Partners and is a strategic adviser and partner at New York-based Thrive Capital. He was a trustee at the University of Chicago from 2006 to 2012 and was elected to the Board of Trust of Vanderbilt University in 2012.
Winkelried will be based in TPG’s San Francisco office and will work alongside TPG co-founder and current CEO Jim Coulter. David Bonderman, who co-founded TPG in 1992 with Coulter, will continue as co-founder and chairman of TPG.

With its main offices in Fort Worth and San Francisco, TPG has $75 billion in assets under management. Since the start of 2014, the firm has raised more than $18.6 billion for its investment funds.

Marketing firm J.O. added Katie Shelton as a graphic designer and Lisa Powers Miller as the new business development manager. Shelton previously worked as a design intern at the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. She was recognized in 2015 with two Gold Student Addys from the Lubbock Chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Miller is the former president of the Camp Bowie District Inc. She also served as a legislative consultant to the city of Arlington, as a public affairs coordinator for Chesapeake Energy Corp. and as chief of staff for State Rep. G.E. “Buddy” West (R-Odessa). She is a 2013 graduate of Leadership Fort Worth and is involved with the Hope Center for Autism and Camp Fire First Texas.

Gary G. Winterhalter, chairman of Sally Beauty Holdings Inc., will retire from the corporation and the board, effective Feb. 2, the date of the company’s next annual meeting. A new chairman will be elected at that time. Winterhalter has served on the board since November 2006, as executive chairman since August 2012. He was the CEO of Sally Beauty Holdings Inc. from the separation from Alberto-Culver in October 2006 to February 2015. Prior to the separation, he held positions of increasing responsibility including president of Sally Beauty Holdings and president of Sally Beauty Supply and BSG North America.
Construction & Engineering
Sundt Construction Inc. hired Hal Hardister,an industry veteran with more than 25 years of management experience in construction and real estate development, as a project director on its Dallas-Fort Worth team. Hardister joins Sundt as the company expands in Texas to collaborate with local and regional leaders on future building projects. He will manage contact with clients, build and cultivate client relationships and serve as chief strategist in business development. During his time in the construction industry, Hardister has worked on projects that range in size from 60,000 to 869,000 square feet, including a Class A office, parking garages, a flex office, industrial warehouses and aviation.
Education
The University of Texas at Arlington appointed Kris Munoz Vetter as associate vice president for development. Vetter previously was executive director for principal gifts at Southern Methodist University. Before joining SMU, she was an assistant dean for development and external affairs at the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture.
Government
Fort Worth Housing Authority (FWHA) appointed Joe Czabajszki as its new marketing and communications manager. Czabajszki has more than 20 years of experience in advertising, marketing and graphic design. Previously he was the advertising and marketing manager for EECU, one of North Texas’ largest credit unions. Earlier he spent more than nine years as director of creative services for KCBI 90.9 FM.

Texas Christian University Chancellor Victor J. Boschini Jr. received the Interfraternal Partner Award from the National Panhellenic Conference for playing a key role in NPC’s advancement within the greater fraternal or higher education community.
The University of Texas at Arlington celebrated the $1 million endowed Hamish Small Chair of Ion Analysis with an event honoring Purnendu “Sandy” Dasgupta, the first faculty member to hold the chair, and the chair’s namesake, renowned chemist Hamish Small. Dasgupta, the Jenkins Garrett Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, joined the UT Arlington College of Science in 2007 after a 25-year career at Texas Tech University. He has won numerous awards, including the American Chemical Society Division of Analytical Chemistry J. Calvin Giddings Award for Excellence in Education in February 2015.
Tom L. Wood, chief technologist at Bell Helicopter, has been awarded the American Helicopter Society International’s 2016 Alexander A. Nikolsky Honorary Lectureship for his achievements in the field of helicopter and V/STOL aircraft engineering and development. Wood has had an extensive 50-year career a Bell Helicopter, where he has been a key figure in many major development programs, has contributed numerous and significant innovations to the field and has mentored at least two generations of rotary wing engineers. He currently advises the executive leadership team on technical issues and oversees the senior technical fellow organization and the company’s research and innovation group.
UT Arlington will honor five outstanding alumni at the 50th annual Distinguished Alumni Awards on Nov. 12. The 2015 honorees are: Sohrab Charna, founder and principal of architecture firm Designworx; Tamara Hext Hilliard, founder, CEO and owner of Tay’s Gourmet LLC; Raj Malik, president and founder of BioWorld Merchandising Inc.; Alan Petsche, owner of Aaron Ave Records and the Candlelite Inn and the retired chief operating officer for A.E. Petsche Co.; and Bonnie Petsche, principal and vice president of Petsche Commercial Properties. Arnold Petsche, a longtime UT Arlington supporter and father of Alan, also will be recognized as a Distinguished Honorary Alumnus.

Renfro Foods, manufacturer of Mrs. Renfro’s salsas and other specialty food products, has been named the 2015 Small Family Business of the Year by Baylor University’s Institute for Family Business. This is the third time the multi-generational family business has been honored by the institute; it received the Founders Award in 2011 and the Family Values Award in 1993.
