Republic Services Inc. this month dedicated the new North Texas Recycling Complex in Fort Worth, home to a materials recovery facility.

The 90,000-square-foot, LEED-certified complex serves Dallas, Denton, Parker, and Tarrant counties, and represents an investment in the company’s local recycling capabilities.

LEED certification denotes meeting standards set by the U.S. Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design

Among several dignitaries and community leaders participating in the Tuesday Sept. 10 dedication were Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price; state Sen. Kelly Hancock, R-North Richland Hills; state Rep. Stephanie Klick, R-Fort Worth; and state Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford.

“We are proud of our community, and take to heart our role as responsible stewards of the local environment,” said Craig Mikolajchak, general manager of Republic Services, commenting in a news release.

The new facility collects and processes all plastics marked 1 through 7, paper products, cardboard, glass, aluminum, and other materials. It allows facility operators to continually monitor the materials sorting process, move 35 tons of materials per hour, and automate the baling and storage of finished commodities.

About 40 full-time employees work at the complex.

Republic Services employs more than 1,170 individuals North Texas. Through its subsidiaries, Republic has served Dallas-Fort Worth customers for more than 60 years.
