Sixth annual Hiring Red, White and You veteran hiring event is coming to Globe Life Park

The 6th Annual Hiring Red, White & You! Job Fair is coming to Globe Life Park in Arlington. This year’s event will include over 175 employers and more than 8,000 job openings according to Lacey Douglas with Tarrant County Workforce Solutions.

According to Douglas, over the past four years, Hiring Red, White & You! has connected more than 42,000 veterans with more than 6,500 employers. This statewide initiative connects Texas Veterans, their spouses and the general public with Texas employers.

Hosted by the Texas Workforce Solutions in partnership with the Texas Veterans Commission, the statewide veteran hiring fairs are happening in 30 cities throughout Texas on the same day. The city of Arlington Mayor, Jeff Williams, will kick off the event with other local elected officials.

The local event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 9 and is open to the public as well as free to attend and park. The first 200 veterans will receive a free lunch and a free ballpark tour.

Launched in 2012, the Hiring Red, White & You! statewide awareness campaign is a joint

initiative supported by Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) in coordination with its 28 Workforce Solutions partners, the Texas Veterans Commission, and the Texas Medical Center.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of veterans in Texas is estimated to be 1.7 million and approximately 967,000 of these veterans are eligible for work.

The national unemployment rate in 2015 for all veterans was 4.6 percent and for veterans who served in the military since September 2001 the unemployment rate is higher at 5.8 percent.

The Texas Workforce Solutions says connecting Texas employers to qualified former U.S. military service members is an important responsibility as veterans in the workplace will be as big an asset to businesses as they were to the nation.

Employers who hire veterans may earn up to $9,600 in federal tax credits through the Work Opportunity Tax Credit program. For more information on this, please visit texasworkforce.org/wotc.

TWC also supports veterans through training opportunities, accelerated degree programs and referral services year-round. A full list of veteran workforce services and other resources provided by TWC is available online at texasworkforce.org/veterans.

VLB to host Texas Veterans Benefits Fair in Fort Worth Nov. 4

-FWBP Staff

State and federal officials have joined forces to help veterans access and learn more information about state and federal benefits available to them. A free benefits fair for Texas veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Fort Worth VA Outpatient Clinic.

The clinic is located at 2201 Southeast Loop 820. The fair aims to assist all area veterans, currently serving military members and their families.

Officials from the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) will be on hand to provide information on state programs including land, home and home improvement loans, as well as Texas State Veterans Homes and Cemeteries for veterans and military members in Texas.

The fair is an intergovernmental partnership event between the VLB, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Texas Veterans Commission. Thanks to this partnership, the benefits fair will provide veterans and military members with access to representatives who can discuss pending claims, health care needs, education and employment benefits, and more.

If veterans wish to discuss pending claims, they should bring pertinent case information such as claim numbers, if available.

For more information on the benefits fair, please call 1-800-252-VETS (8387), and for more information about the Texas Veterans Land Board call 1-800-252-8387 or visit http://www.texasVeterans.com.
