Stock Show Insider: As seen on TV – the rodeo

Jesse Cockerell (left) of Fort Worth, and Nestor Ruiz of Duncanville, work on the array of television lights in the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum Arena on Tuesday that will be used during rodeo performances throughout the 2017 Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo. The Stock Show begins its series of 36 rodeo performances on Friday.

When the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo begins its series 36 rodeo shows on Friday, fans will view the action from massive screens that hang high in the middle of the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum Arena.

Workers hung the screen and lights in the coliseum on Tuesday. During a two-hour rodeo performance, fans will be able to watch the action up close from four 16-by-9-foot screens.

“The large screens are one of the tools in our toolbox that allows us to bring fans closer to the action and to engage the fan throughout the performance,” said Matt Brockman, the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo’s publicity manager. “Rodeo is a sport where there are bursts of action, followed by lull time such as when a bull rider is getting ready to call for the gate. So, the big screens allow us to take other technology such as video, sound and music to keep the fan engaged in what’s happening on the arena floor and to keep them engaged throughout the entire two-hour performance.”

Stock Show officials began using the four screens two years ago.
