Tandy Leather Factory Inc. of Fort Worth has reported February sales as unchanged from the same month last year.

Year to date, sales for the month rose 3 percent, from $12.6 million to $12.9 million, compared to the same period last year.

“February was a challenge, but we managed to match last year’s sales for the month,” said president and CEO Jon Thompson in a news release.

“We opened a new store in February, expanding our local presence in the Austin, Texas market. Despite the less than perfect conditions in the retail sector, we are moving forward with our growth plans by increasing the size of our existing stores and opening new ones as appropriate,” Thompson said.

The company’s Leathercraft division saw sales rise 2 percent to $3.9 million compared to $3.8 million in sales the same month last year. The 76 comparable stores’ sales were up 1 percent for the month compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, year-to-date sales for Retail Leathercraft stand at $7.8 million this year, a 4 percent increase over sales of $7.5 million for the same period last year. As of the end of February, the 76 comparable stores’ sales were up 3 percent compared to sales reported for the same period in 2013.

Sales for the company’s Wholesale Leathercraft division fell 4 percent, from $2.2 million in February 2013 to $2.1 million the same month this year. Year to date, the division’s sales reached $4.4 million, matching sales for the same period last year.

International Leathercraft sales for February reached $313,000, up 5 percent compared to the same month last year. Year to date, International Leathercraft sales totaled $722,000 compared to $663,000 in 2013, a 9 percent increase.

Tandy Leather Factory Inc. sells and distributes leather, leatherworking tools, do-it-yourself-kits and many other products. Its products are distributed through its 29 Leather Factory stores, located in 19 states and three Canadian provinces; 80 Tandy Leather retail stores, located in 36 states and six Canadian provinces; and three combination wholesale-retail stores in the United Kingdom, Australia and Spain.
