Tandy Leather Factory Inc. of Fort Worth has reported December 2014 sales of $8.9 million, up 18 percent compared to $7.6 million in the same month in the previous year.
Sales for 2014 rose 7 percent, from $78.5 million in the previous year to $83.7 million.
“We set another monthly sales record in December, with sales of almost $9 million. Better yet, our gross profit margin overall for December was higher than we anticipated,” said president and CEO Jon Thompson in a news release.
The company’s Retail Leathercraft division saw sales rise 22 percent to $5.8 million compared to $4.8 million in the same month in the previous year. The 77 comparable stores’ sales were up 19 percent for the month compared to the same period in the previous year. Five stores opened since December 2013, adding $278,000 to the monthly sales tally.
Meanwhile, sales for Wholesale Leathercraft reached $2.7 million for December 2014 compared to $2.5 million in the same month in the previous year. Wholesale same-store sales were up 11 percent compared to the same month in 2013. For 2014, the division total was $27.4 million, down 1/4 percent compared to the previous year.
Sales for the company’s International Leathercraft division rose 26 percent, from $318,000 in December 2013 to $400,000 for the same month last year. The division’s sales inched up 9 percent, reaching $4.3 million, compared to $3.9 million the previous year.
Tandy Leather Factory Inc. sells and distributes leather, leatherworking tools, do-it-yourself-kits and many other products. Its products are distributed through its 28 Leather Factory stores, located in 18 states and three Canadian provinces; 82 Tandy Leather retail stores, located in 36 states and six Canadian provinces; and three combination wholesale-retail stores in the United Kingdom, Australia and Spain.
