Tandy Leather Factory reports higher September sales

Tandy Leather Factory Inc. of Fort Worth has reported September sales of $6.3 million, up 9 percent compared to $5.8 million in the same month last year.

Year to date, sales are up 4 percent, from $56.9 million last year to $59.1 million in the current year.

“Our September sales built on the momentum from August with the majority of our stores performing very well,” said president and CEO Jon Thompson in a news release.

“With the release of our annual catalog last week and the new products in the stores, that momentum should continue as we move through the fourth quarter,” Thompson said.

The company’s Retail Leathercraft division saw sales rise 12 percent to $3.9 million compared to $3.4 million in the same month last year. The 76 comparable stores’ sales were up 10 percent for the month compared to the same period last year. Four stores opened since September 2013 added $138,000 to the monthly sales tally.

Meanwhile, sales for Wholesale Leathercraft rose 2 percent to $2.1 million in September compared to $2.0 million in sales for the same month last year. Year to date, the division total is $19.7 million, down 2 percent compared to last year.

Sales for the company’s International Leathercraft division rose 10 percent, from $309,000 in September 2013 to $340,000 for the same month this year. Year to date, the division’s sales reached inched up 8 percent, reaching $3.1 million, compared to $2.9 million last year.

Tandy Leather Factory Inc. sells and distributes leather, leatherworking tools, do-it-yourself-kits and many other products. Its products are distributed through its 29 Leather Factory stores, located in 19 states and three Canadian provinces; 80 Tandy Leather retail stores, located in 36 states and six Canadian provinces; and three combination wholesale-retail stores in the United Kingdom, Australia and Spain.
