Tandy Leather Factory reports slightly higher June sales

Tandy Leather Factory Inc. of Fort Worth has reported June sales of $5.9 million, up 1 percent compared to $5.8 million in the same month last year.

Year to date, sales are up 3 percent, from $38.3 million last year to $39.7 million in the current year.

“Our June sales were respectable and we are pleased with our sales for the quarter overall,” said president and CEO Jon Thompson in a news release.

“The sales in our international stores continue to grow as we increase customer awareness due to our participation in trade shows throughout Europe,” Thompson said.

The company’s Retail Leathercraft division saw sales rise 5 percent to $3.7 million compared to $3.5 million in the same month last year. The 76 comparable stores’ sales were up 4 percent for the month compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, sales for Wholesale Leathercraft dropped 9 percent to $1.9 million in June compared to $2.1 million in sales for the same month last year. Year to date, the division total is $13.3 million, down 1 percent compared to last year.

Sales for the company’s International Leathercraft division rose 19 percent, from $273,000 in June 2013 to $324,000 for the same month this year. Year to date, the division’s sales reached inched up 6 percent, or $2.1 million, compared to $2.0 million last year.

Tandy Leather Factory Inc. sells and distributes leather, leatherworking tools, do-it-yourself-kits and many other products. Its products are distributed through its 29 Leather Factory stores, located in 19 states and three Canadian provinces; 80 Tandy Leather retail stores, located in 36 states and six Canadian provinces; and three combination wholesale-retail stores in the United Kingdom, Australia and Spain.
