Tandy Leather sets monthly sales record

Tandy Leather Factory Inc. of Fort Worth has reported December 2015 sales of $9.1 million, up 2 percent compared to $8.9 million in the same month in 2014.

Sales for 2015 totaled $84.4 million, up 1 percent compared to 2014 sales of $83.7 million.

“We set a new monthly sales record in December, with sales exceeding $9 million,” said president and CEO Jon Thompson in a news release.

“And we did so without sacrificing gross profit margins. It has been a challenging year, but we finished the year on a high note,” Thompson said.

The company’s Retail Leathercraft division saw sales rise 3 percent to $6.0 million compared to $5.8 million in the same month of 2014. The 82 comparable stores’ sales were up 3 percent for the month compared to the same month in 2014.

Meanwhile, sales for Wholesale Leathercraft reached $2.7 million for December 2015, down 1 percent or $19,000 compared to $2.7 million in the same month of 2014. For the year, Wholesale Leathercraft sales totaled $26.8 million, down 2 percent from $27.4 million in 2014.

Sales for the company’s International Leathercraft division dropped 7 percent, from $400,000 in December 2014 to $374,000 in December 2015.

Tandy Leather Factory Inc. sells and distributes leather, leatherworking tools, do-it-yourself-kits and many other products. Its products are distributed through its 28 Leather Factory stores, located in 19 states and three Canadian provinces; 82 Tandy Leather retail stores, located in 36 states and six Canadian provinces; and three combination wholesale-retail stores in the United Kingdom, Australia and Spain.
