This week, the Texas FFA Association is holding its 90th annual convention in Fort Worth. The week-long gathering is estimated to bring more than 12,000 members and guests to Fort Worth July 9-July 13, a news release announced.
The events will be held at the Fort Worth Convention Center, with the ceremonial gavel drop signaling the start of the first general session at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10.
Members of the agricultural youth leadership organization will spend the week attending leadership workshops, participating in specialized events and activities, being recognized for their achievements and serving as the legislative body for the Texas FFA Association, the release detailed. Additionally, more than 2,500 students will be recognized for their accomplishments, with more than $2.3 million in scholarships to be awarded.
“We are excited to be back in Fort Worth for our annual convention and to celebrate 90 years of learning and progress,” Texas FFA executive director Austin Large said in the release. “Our goal at every convention is to make an impact on all attendees, providing the tools and guidance needed to aid them in solving real-world problems.”
The week will kick off with a keynote speech from Liz Murry, inspirational speaker and best-selling author of Breaking Night: A Memoir of Forgiveness, Survival and My Journey from Homeless to Harvard, during the first general session.
The Texas FFA finals rodeo will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and the scholarship award ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11.
Additionally, attendees will participate in community service projects benefiting the city of Fort Worth throughout the week.
Finally, members will elect the 2018-2019 state officers with the president and first vice president being announced at the final general session on Friday, July 13.
