The Fresh Market announces store closures

The Fresh Market Inc. plans to close 13 stores — including all Texas locations — as well as those in Iowa, Missouri and Kansas, the Greensboro, N.C.-based company announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The firm’s Tarrant County locations are in Fort Worth and Southlake. Dates that those stores will close were not disclosed.

The company said it made the decision following an internal analysis and consideration of its overall growth strategy and long-term financial performance.

”The decision to close these stores is a difficult but necessary step with the end goal of producing a stronger, more agile company,” said president-CEO Rick Anicetti in a statement.

“This shift also allows us to focus our energy and resources on the growth of our remaining stores, as well as new stores we have planned in the future.  We continue to pursue our strategy of offering exceptional products, engaging shopping experiences, and great customer service across all our stores,” Anicetti said.

All eligible employees at the affected stores have been offered the option to apply for a position at another store location and will receive a separation package, according to a company news release.

Founded in 1982, The Fresh Market Inc. is a specialty grocery retailer operating 175 stores in 23 states. More information is available at www.thefreshmarket.com
