Triple Crown means marketing magic for Pharoah jockey Espinoza

NEW YORK – Jockey Victor Espinoza’s ride isn’t over following American Pharoah’s Triple Crown win.

Espinoza signed an agreement with Steiner Sports Marketing and Memorabilia after guiding American Pharoah to horse racing’s first Triple Crown victory in 37 years.

The partnership will feature a collectibles line, including signed photographs from the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes; shadow boxes with replica whips and horseshoes; a variety of collages; and dirt from Belmont Park, where American Pharoah on Saturday became the 12th horse to win the sport’s most celebrated title.

As part of the deal, Espinoza will participate in events at which fans can participate in a question-and-answer session, take photographs with the jockey and also get his autograph. Steiner will handle Espinoza’s marketing and sponsorship opportunities and offer fans the opportunity to have their tickets or programs from the Belmont hand-signed by the first Triple Crown-winning rider since Steve Cauthen won aboard Affirmed in 1978.

A 43-year-old native of Mexico, Espinoza had fallen short of the Triple Crown in the Belmont twice previously, having won both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness with War Emblem in 2002 and California Chrome in 2014.
