The Rev. Dr. Russell Peterman, senior minister at First Christian Church, Concord, California, has been called to be senior minister at University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Drive on the edge of the Texas Christian University campus.
His first Sunday in UCC’s Sanctuary pulpit will be Dec. 3. The congregation voted to call him Sunday night.
“I am so excited to fulfill a lifelong dream to serve the UCC congregation,” Peterman said in a news release announcing the call. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from TCU in 1990. He also holds a master of divinity degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary and a doctorate of ministry degrees from Columbia Theological Seminary.
Peterman focuses his ministry on preaching and has taught a homiletics course at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California. He currently serves on the Administrative Committee of the General Board of the Christian Church, the release said.
University Christian Church is a Disciples of Christ congregation chartered 100 years ago September of 1917. The cornerstone of University Christian Church was laid on March 5, 1933, the day when the nation’s banks were closed by presidential order during the Great Depression, the church history section of its website said.
