Marine killed after Hawaii boat accident identified

KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii (AP) — A Marine who died after a recreational boat capsized off Hawaii over the weekend has been identified as Sg. Jaylon Walker.

The Marine Corps said Monday the 24-year-old from Garland served as an aviation electronics communications system technician. He was assigned to a Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 24 in Hawaii.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Saturday a 17-foot boat overturned with three men onboard near the north side of the Marine Base at Kaneohe (kah-nay-oh-hay) Bay.

Two of the men were able to swim back to shore and notify authorities. The third was found unconscious. He wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a pulse.

Squadron commander Lt. Col. Robert Flannery says Walker was a fine Marine and will be truly missed by everyone in the squadron.
