Amphibian Stage Productions has announced its 2017 Comedy Series lineup, featuring “comedy superstars” Baron Vaughn and Emily Heller in addition to local comedians and music by Dreamy Life.

This is Amphibian’s second annual Phib Comedy Series. In addition to her own Comedy Central stand up, Heller is known for her appearances on such shows as Late Night, Conan, The Meltdown, John Oliver’s New York Stand Up Show, Maron, Inside Amy Schumer and more. Vaughn is known for his work on Grace and Frankie and for his “finely-crafted ramblings that shoot off into pop culture references.”

Vaughn and Heller will each perform for a week at Amphibian, developing their routines from feedback received throughout the week. Each will also have an after party with live music thanks to a Dreamy Life Records partnership. Heller’s party will take place Friday, Aug. 25 at Republic, with live music featuring Jesse Gage, I Happy Am, Loafers and Sealion. Vaughn’s after-party will be Friday, Sept. 8 at MASS, featuring Young Valley, Toy Gun and War Party.

“The typical process for comedians to develop new material is quite brutal,” said Amphibian Artistic Director Kathleen Culebro in a news release. “They write in isolation and then try the jokes in front of audiences who are frequently more interested in drinking than what the performers have to say. We provide comedians the same environment we offer playwrights: a safe, nurturing environment to take risks and try new ideas. By the end of their residencies they have polished sets that are ready for national television and comedy clubs around the country.”

Heller will be performing Tuesday, Aug. 22, through Saturday, Aug. 26. Vaughn will perform Monday, Sept. 4, through Saturday, Sept. 9.

Each night will also feature a local opening act by area comedians including Latrice Allen, Scott Crisp, De De T, Paulos Feerow, Christian Hughes, Shahyan Jahani, Sheridi Lester, Monna, Alvin Newsome and Linda Stogner. Weekdays will have one opening act, weekend nights will have two. Performance dates for each opener are available at the website above.

Tickets for individual nights range from $12-$25, with festival passes for each comedian available for $32. A discount of $5 is available with any purchase of two or more tickets for individual nights for either of the comedians.
