Blackland Distillery opening in March in Foundry District

Markus Kypreos

Blackland Distillery, founded by Fort Worth-native and lawyer-turned-chef-turned-distiller Markus Kypreos, plans to make its official debut in Fort Worth in March.

Located just west of downtown Fort Worth in The Foundry District at 2616 Weisenberger St., Blackland says it “incorporates a modern, tech-focused approach to traditional distilling processes, producing clean, vibrant new tastes in its small-batch spirits, which include a vodka, bourbon, gin, and rye whiskey.”

Starting March 20, the 6,500-square-foot Blackland Distillery will be open-to-the-public on Wednesdays through Sundays from 5 p.m.-midnight. Its upscale full-service cocktail lounge, bar and tasting room will offer 10-15 custom handcrafted cocktails all made with Blackland spirits. The space will include a horseshoe-shaped, stone-topped bar, stained wooden bar stools, booths and tables, club chairs, concrete floors, stucco walls, custom chandelier lighting, original commissioned artworks from visual artist Magdiel Lopez, and an outdoor terrace/lounge.

Blackland distills its spirits using high-tech hardware, computerized pot and column stills, and stainless-steel mash tuns. In addition, all grains used in Blackland spirits are sourced exclusively from Fort Worth-based TexMalt, which partners with local Texas farms to grow, produce, and source high-quality malted grains.

750 ML bottles of Blackland Vodka, Blackland Gin, Blackland Bourbon, and Blackland Rye Whiskey will be available for sale at Blackland Distillery beginning March 20. Expanded distribution to local/regional restaurants, bars, and liquor stores will begin this summer.

“We built Blackland Distillery based on the concept of ‘remastering,’ which is woven into every touch point – ingredients, fermentation, distillation, maturation, blending, flavor profiles, architecture, bottle and package design, cocktail offerings, and more,” said Kypreos. “After years of planning, research, and development — combined with technological innovation and refined approaches – we are ecstatic to finally unveil Blackland Distillery to the public and showcase how to remaster distilling and drinking.”

Serving as Blackland’s head distiller is Ezra Cox, who has more than 20 years in the craft brewing and craft distilling industries. He most recently served as lead brewer at Legal Draft Beer Company, and has also held positions with Revolver Brewing, Bishops Cider Co., and Cowlitz River Distillery.

Blackland founder and Fort Worth native Kypreos is a former attorney and partner with Pennington Hill, LLC., He has since attended the Artisan Craft Distilling Institute, become a certified sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers, and is a culinary school graduate with a focus in classical French cuisine.
