Fort Worth is getting an addition to its roster of small brewing companies: Wahoo Brewery, a startup.
Wahoo has secured a lease in about 7,000 square feet of the former Texas Beer Co. building at 501 N. Main St. across from Fort Worth’s LaGrave Field, Michael Harper, head brewer, confirmed.
Harper, who plays in a ‘90s cover band called the Dick Beldings that’s starting up the brewery, said his group hasn’t decided when it will start production.
“We’re not really sure yet, (but) not soon enough for our likings,” Harper said. “We want to be careful about this. We’re a group of musicians who started a brewery.”
Then he added, “we’re stoked to open up here in the very near future.”
Wahoo, which has a Facebook page and has been issuing vague, unspecific posts about an impending Fort Worth operation, will produce four beers to start, Harper said.
One is Allergeez, an American white pale fashioned from Texas honey, chamomile, and rose hips.
Others: Boom, a cream ale; Cannonball, a Scottish strong ale; and IPf’nA, an IPA.
Wahoo has part of the 19,152-square-foot Texas Beer facility. This represents the group’s first venture, Harper said.
Martin House, another small Fort Worth brewery, featured small batches of Wahoo’s beers during a Halloween event.
Harper said Wahoo wanted to take advantage of the North Side, which is slated to be transformed by the Trinity River Vision.
“We think we’ve secured a location that’s going to serve us well for the next 10 years,” Harper said.
