Two mammoth murals made from automotive paint on aluminum panels are being installed in the pedestrian plazas beneath the Clearfork Main Street Bridge in west Fort Worth. The 12-foot-tall works, whose 10-day installation began on Wednesday, span more than 20 feet each and adorn the east and west abutment walls of the bridge, west of Hulen Street on Stonegate-Clearfork Main Street. As a city public art project, the murals were created to enhance the pedestrian experience beneath the new Clearfork Main Street Bridge, which extends Stonegate Boulevard from the Hulen Street intersection to the planned Edwards Ranch development to the west. A pedestrian bridge, suspended from the vehicular bridge above, provides the crossing and connection at trail level, completing a two-mile loop on the Trinity Trails. Artists behind the murals are Tommy Fitzpatrick and Devon Nowlin, a Fort Worth resident whose paintings have gained regional recognition and have been included in recent exhibitions at Artspace 111 in Fort Worth and a solo exhibition at Craighead-Green Gallery in Dallas. Nowlin is gallery manager and interim curator for Fort Worth Contemporary Arts, The Art Galleries at TCU. Fitzpatrick has exhibited his work in 20 solo exhibitions nationwide and internationally. His work is in the public collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, as well as the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
