The Dallas Stars arrive this week at the Fort Worth Convention Center to hold training camp for the 2013-14 season.

“Our organization is committed to growing the game of hockey across the state of Texas, and partnering with Fort Worth is a first step in this endeavor,” said team president and CEO Jim Lites in a news release.

Training camp is set for Sept. 11-14.

“I am excited that we will have the opportunity to showcase our team to the residents of Fort Worth and surrounding cities. As the only professional sports team to hold an open training camp in North Texas, this will be a unique opportunity for the people of Fort Worth to experience firsthand our organization’s commitment to our community,” Lites said.

The public is invited to watch free team practices from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 12 and Friday Sept. 13. Training camp will end with an intra-squad scrimmage at the convention center at 10 a.m. Sept. 14.

“We’ve got a lot of excited Dallas Stars fans who are going to have a great time watching training camp in Fort Worth,” Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price said.

“It’ll be a lot of fun to have the Stars staying at the Omni Hotel in downtown and practicing at the Fort Worth Convention Center, and you can be sure we’ll make an event out of it,” Price said.

Stars representatives will join Price on Sept. 11 to drop the puck on the second annual FitWorth Kids Fall Challenge at Morningside Elementary School. Fourth-graders will play a game of street hockey after a brief presentation.
