Dallas Museum receives $9M gift

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Museum of Art has received a gift of $9 million that will help ensure the continuation of free general admission and will also allow the museum to publish its collection online.

The museum, which announced the anonymous gift Tuesday, returned to a policy of free general admission in January. At the time, museum also began a free membership program called DMA Friends. More than 35,000 visitors have enrolled in the membership program, with 94 percent saying they had no prior involvement with the museum.

The museum plans to put its entire collection online. Also, whenever permitted by existing agreements, the museum will be able to release all images, data and software it creates to the public.
