In honor of Veterans Day, on Monday, Nov. 11, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History will host a free lecture exploring the history of Camp Bowie with Tyler Alberts, executive director of the Military Museum of Fort Worth, and Trace Chinworth, CEO of the Military Museum of Fort Worth.
Shortly after the United States joined the First World War, 30,000 troops descended on Fort Worth to train and prepare. What became known as Camp Bowie lasted only a few years, yet it left a permanent mark on the city.
During the lecture, which starts at 7 p.m., guests will discover what went on in Camp Bowie’s eastern section, the land that would go on to become the Cultural District the Museum sits in today, the museum said in a news release.
Guests can dive deeper into the fascinating history of Camp Bowie at a VIP reception preceding the lecture at 5:45 p.m. The paid reception includes complimentary refreshments and an opportunity to chat with Alberts and Chinworth.
The Celebrity Lecture is free, but registration is required.
The VIP reception is $10 for non-members or $5 for members.
