Eight unpublished operas scheduled for Fort Worth Opera’s 2017 Frontiers Workshop

The life of a ruthless Colombian drug lord, a bedeviled candy shop, an anniversary dinner undone by an adulterous text message, a private insane asylum with a revolutionary method of treatment, and more to be presented during the final week of the 2017 Fort Worth Opera Festival.

The Fort Worth Opera has announced eight composer and librettist teams whose unpublished works have been selected for the company’s fifth annual new works series, Frontiers – funded in part by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The works will be presented during the final week of the 2017 Fort Worth Opera Festival in two separate showcases of four works each May 3 and 4 from 8-10 p.m. in the McDavid Studio at Bass Performance Hall. Tickets for the showcases are $10.

Frontiers has established itself as a leader in seeking out the best and brightest new voices in the opera industry, with a specific eye toward identifying exceptional works for future production in the Fort Worth Opera alternative venue series Opera Unbound, the company said in a news release.
