After over four and a half years of aging, Firestone and Robertson Distilling Company (F&R) today announced that its TX Straight Bourbon is ready for release. A limited amount of the spirit will be available at the company’s Fort Worth distillery, and in select Dallas and Fort Worth stores beginning December 12.

They are offering a preview to the public on Saturday December 10, at the distillery. Some people have already approached them and asked if it’s okay to camp out in an effort to secure a better place in line…so if you want to score a bottle (and it’s one per customer) you should plan to bundle up and get in line early.

“Admittedly, there were times in the past few years when we grew impatient, but we are so happy that we waited,” said Leonard Firestone, co-founder of F&R. “We believe our team has produced something special. The final product has certainly achieved all our goals. The bourbon has a beautiful aroma. It’s smooth. It’s balanced. And on the palate, it reveals classic bourbon characteristics but clearly possesses its own personality. We can’t wait to share it.”

After attending a media tasting event last night, I can testify that it was worth the wait. Firestone & Robertson’s TX Straight Bourbon is smooth and maybe a little too drinkable. The packaging is nearly identical to their first blended TX Whiskey, but the coloring is obviously darker amber.

The release identifies the tasting notes: At bottle strength, the nose is very bold with aromas of rich oak, caramel, cinnamon and allspice. Using a few drops of water for dilution, dark dried fruit, coconut, toasted almonds, and more sweet spice fragrances radiate in the glass. On the palate, the velvety, mouth-coating sensation of the bourbon, along with its supreme drinkability, becomes apparent. The aromas carry through on the taste and provide a lingering finish.
