For the Fourth of July, it’s man bites dog, water-fueled jet packs and old-fashioned fireworks

This Friday, during the Dog Days of Summer, Fort Worth’s home of Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs is holding The fourth annual local version of the Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating competition will heat up at Curly’s Frozen Custard at 4017 Camp Bowie Blvd.

Three-time champ Chris Sisco will attempt to take a bite out of the record books and earn his fourth on the Fourth. Last year Sisco set a new record time of 2:38 for four Nathan’s Hot Dogs. “The fun begins with registration starting at 10:00, as we start serving free samples of our Signature Parker County Peach frozen custard. Then, at 11:00 a.m., we will learn if our three-peat champion Chris Sisco can make it four,” says Bourke Harvey, managing partner of Curly’s. “I hear he’s been training to defend his title – He better be as he only won by a second or two last year, and I am sure the competition will turn it up a notch this year.” Competitors are vying for Four (4) front row tickets to a Texas Rangers baseball game, directly behind the Rangers’ dugout, plus coupons good for two of the giant 26-inch Boom-stick Hot Dogs at the game. The winner will be determined by how fast he (or she) eats four full sized Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs. With 20 contestants last year, Curly’s had five heats of four, and the best overall time won was declared the Champion! There will also be a youth division (14 and Under) where the contestants see who can down two full sized Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs the fastest.

Fort Worth’s Fourth is back and is said to be bigger than ever. Fort Worth’s Fourth is a free family event hosted on the banks of the Trinity River at Panther Island Pavilion. Admission and all family activities are free to the public. The celebration will take place all afternoon with family activities, live music, Dallas Cowboys Rhythm and Blue Dancers, fly board and jet ski shows. When the sun goes down, the fireworks will begin. A new activity this year will be fly board show, riders performing tricks on water fueled jet-packs. The show will feature Damone Rippy who just won the North American Flyboard Championship. Additional free activities include tubing, pony rides, miniature golf, levee slide, inflatable zip line, Quad Bungee, bounce houses, water slides, face painting and much more! There will be live music from Larry g(EE), who has performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live and the high-energy cover band, Party Machine.

These high-flying daredevils are guaranteed to make the audience’s hearts stop with stunts only seen in the movies.

Jet ski shows will also be back this year. A favorite of years past, the shows at Fort Worth’s Fourth will feature Pro Watercross Tour’s Daniel Martin and his team. Martin is known for wowing the crowd with tricks such as double backflips, helicopters, reverse rinse repeat and more.

“We’ve built up quite a reputation over the past two years for having the best fireworks show in North Texas,” said Trinity River Vision Authority Executive Director, JD Granger. “We’re dedicated to upholding the reputation. We have quite a few tricks up our sleeve this year and can guarantee the crowds will not be disappointed. And of course we will have our signature fire bombs that always shock and awe the crowd,” he said.
