When Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University take the gridiron on Saturday, more will be at stake than touchdowns; civic pride will be on the line for Fort Worth and Dallas.

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings have announced a friendly wager for the game, set for 11 a.m. Sept. 28.

The wager calls for the losing mayor to deliver a catered lunch to the winning city council. If SMU wins, Price will deliver a Joe T. Garcia’s spread to the Dallas City Council. If TCU emerges victorious, Rawlings will provide Pecan Lodge eats to the Fort Worth council.

“It’s always fun to add a little more to our old iron skillet rivalry, and Mike and I have no qualms about razzing each other over football,” Price said in a news release.

“Yes, we don’t have our starting quarterback, but I’m confident in our Horned Frogs. I have three words for Mayor Rawlings: Fear…The…Frog!” Price said.

Not to be outdone, Rawlings said, “I have three words for Mayor Price: Fear…The…Upset!”

The Horned Frogs hold a 45-40-7 edge over the Mustangs, with the DFW Duel also known as the Iron Skillet Game. The winning team will hold the Iron Skillet trophy until the next meeting. Though no longer in the same conference, the two schools have agreed to play each season through 2017 on an alternating home-and-away basis. This year’s game is scheduled to be played at Amon G. Carter Stadium at TCU, home of the Horned Frogs.
