Fort Worth Zoo makes USA Today list of best zoos

There’s no rattling Fort Worth Zoo’s cage, as it once again got voted one of the best zoos in the nation and North America.

USA Today’s published its annual 10 Best Zoos list on Friday and revealed that Fort Worth Zoo ranked at number four best zoo in the continent.

While the zoo’s African Savanna placed 6th in the Best Zoo Exhibit category.

USA Today has conducted the Best Zoo poll for the last three years, and Fort Worth Zoo has made it to the top 5, each time.

A panel of 8 traveling and lifestyle industry experts determined the initial top 20 nominees. Then, the public voted to choose the top 10. Voting for the contest was closed on Monday, April 22.

“Thank you for casting your votes and once again putting an international spotlight on the Fort Worth Zoo,” Michael Fouraker, Fort Worth Zoo’s executive director said in a statement. “It is the work of our dedicated staff and the support from our loyal guests and friends that make the Fort Worth Zoo truly special.”

Established in 1909, the zoo is the oldest continuously operated zoo in Texas.

Over 540 animal species currently live in the facility. Out of those, 68 are in the endangered or threatened list.

Additionally, 10 acres of new exhibit space is currently in the works. A $100-million master plan is set to renovate and redesign the zoo in the coming years.

Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, ranked number one, won the best zoo title.

Rounding off the list, Dallas Zoo was ranked number 10.
