(CNN) — The answer to the question of whether “24” could return to Fox is now an unequivocal “yes.”

Fox’s Chairman of Entertainment, Kevin Reilly, confirmed to press during a conference call on Monday that Kiefer Sutherland’s Agent Jack Bauer is back in an event series that’ll run over 12 weeks.

As had been previously reported, there was much talk surrounding a “24” movie, but, Reilly said, the creative team “all agreed that ’24’ compressed into two hours is not ’24.'” But with Fox’s new mission to run event programming, “a lightbulb went off for [former executive producer] Howard Gordon,” Reilly said. “This is the perfect form.”

Called “24: Live Another Day,” the episodes would “go in chronological order of the day, but skip hours,” Reilly said, as “dictated by the plot.”

The plan is to air “24: Live Another Day” in early May 2014, and have it run through the summer to lead into Fox’s other event program, M. Night Shyamalan’s “Wayward Pines” starring Matt Dillon.

In other news, Fox also presented its fall 2013 schedule, which includes three new comedies and two new dramas. The schedule below for the fall season includes new shows, complete with descriptions, in bold:

Monday

8:00-9:00 p.m. – “Bones” (fall)/”Almost Human” (late fall): “Starring Karl Urban and Michael Ealy, the new series is an action-packed police drama set 35 years in the future, when police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.”

9:00-10:00 p.m. – “Sleepy Hollow”: “What if you suddenly woke up from the throes of death 250 years in the future to find the world is on the brink of destruction, caused by unimaginable events, and you are humanity’s last hope? Welcome to ‘Sleepy Hollow,’ the thrilling new mystery-adventure drama from co-creators/executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (“Star Trek” and “Transformers” franchises, “Fringe”). In this modern-day retelling of Washington Irving’s classic, Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to unravel a mystery that dates all the way back to the founding fathers.”

Tuesday

8:00-8:30 p.m. – “Dads”: “This new multi-camera comedy series follows two successful guys — and childhood best friends — Eli (Seth Green) and Warner (Giovanni Ribisi), now in their mid-30s, whose relatively stable lives get turned upside down when their pain-in-the-neck patriarchs move in.”

8:30-9:00 p.m. – “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”: “Detective Jake Perlata (Andy Samberg) is a good enough cop that he’s never had to work that hard or follow the rules too closely. … That is, until the precinct gets a new commanding officer, Captain Ray Holt (Braugher), who reminds this hotshot cop to respect the badge.”

9:00-9:30 p.m. – “New Girl”

9:30-10:00 p.m. – “The Mindy Project”

Based on the hugely successful U.K. and Australian format, the series extends the ‘Masterchef’ brand in the U.S. to include a younger group of aspiring masterchefs.”

Late Fall:

8:00-9:00 p.m. – “Bones”

Now, as head of their platoon, Pete must serve both as big brother and military boss. Corporal Derrick Hill (Chris Lowell) is the middle brother — smart and sarcastic, he likes to stir up trouble and doesn’t really care about being a soldier. Private Randy Hill (Parker Young), on the other hand, loves it.”
