Fugitive owl returned to Fort Worth Zoo

FORT WORTH (AP) — A white barn own missing from the Fort Worth Zoo for three days is back home after a squawking blue jays drew zoo workers to a nearby tree. Tyto had flown away from a bird show at the zoo on Sunday. Early Tuesday, a nearby resident heard the blue jays in a tree raising a racket and spotted the 3-year-old raptor’s white face in the tree. Zoo spokeswoman Alexis Wilson says a call to the zoo brought workers to the scene with treats and a perch. Finally, Tyto was coaxed onto a zoo staff member’s raptor-gloved hand for the short trip home. After a quick exam, she was returned to her enclosure for a rest.
