The Austin Event Center has announced the September comedic headlines for the Funny Fridays in Funkytown — Sydney Castillo and Robert Powell.
Powell and Castillo will headline the Friday, Sept. 29, event at Fort Worth’s Austin Event Center, located at 1125 E. Berry St. The event will begin at 9 p.m., with doors opening at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for $20 in advance on Eventbrite and will be sold for $25 at the door.
Fort Worth-native Castillo is a writer and stand-up comedian who has performed in clubs such as “The Comedy Store,” “The Laugh Factory” and “The Improv,” in addition to touring with comedians David Alan Grier, Chris Spencer and Tony Rock.
Castillo has also appeared on more than a dozen comedy shows and specials, including HBO’s “Bad Boys of Comedy” and BET’s “1 Mic Stand.”As a sketch writer, Castillo has written for BET’s “HellDate,” The Tony Rock Project, the 2008 & 2009 BET Awards, and Humor Mill Magazine.
Powell, the third of his name, and also known as RP3, began his comedic career in college as a dare and never stopped.
Named Louisiana’s Comedian of the Year 3 years in a row, RP3’s comedic experience includes hosting, opening, feature, or touring with names including Kevin Hart, Lil Duval, Rickey Smiley, Mike Epps, DL Hughley, Rodney Perry, Cedric the Entertainer and Ron White.
Powell has also shared a musical stage with Ludacris, Fantasia, Monica, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Faith Evans, Webbie, Boosie, Lil Wayne, Anthony Hamilton, Avant and more.
