Get your Oktoberfest on with McKinney’s 10th annual Oktoberfest celebration

The McKinney Oktoberfest is celebrating its 10th year this go-round!

The annual event is presented by the City of McKinney and is produced by McKinney Main Street, part of the national and state Main Street organizations.

“Dust off your lederhosen and tune up your yodel for this year’s Oktoberfest,” the website reads. “McKinney Oktoberfest is a family favorite, offering authentic German music, food and drink, traditional costumes, dancing, children’s activities and much more.”

Entry to the main event is free, but food, drink and ride tickets will need to be purchased for $1 a ticket.

Special events, some available for an additional cost, will include:

— Hofbrau “Musskrugstemmen” Stein Holding Competition – The competition will take place from 6:30-7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23. Tickets are $20 and include the event, an official Hofbrau stein and beer. This competition is a strength competition with the goal being to hold a glass stein filled with beer. The winner will receive a paid trip to Las Vegas.

— 10th Annual Weenie Dog Races – The races will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23. Check in will be available from 10-11 a.m., the Weenie Dog Races will take place from noon to 2 p.m. and all other dogs may race in the “Wannabe” Dog Races, held from 2-5 p.m. A $5 registration is required per dog.

“Over 70 Weenie Dogs and Wannabes (All Other Breeds) meet at McKinney Oktoberfest to see who will be the top dog,” the website reads. “The fastest Weenie will receive a prize package from The Canine Cookie Company and The Mutt Puddle and the Grand Champion trophy.”

— Meet the Brewmaster Sessions – Participants are invited to learn more about craft beer during the free Brewmaster sessions held on W. Louisianna St. at the Bavarian Experience Stage. The Franconia Brewing Co. session will take place Friday, Sept. 22, at 7:00 p.m. and the TUPPS Brewery session will take place Saturday, Sept. 23, at 4 p.m. All participants must be 21 or older.

— TUPPS Brat Eating Competition – This foodie competition will take place from 3-4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25. The event is free but participation is limited to the first 10 people to register.

“See who can eat the most ‘naked’ brats in 8 minutes and will be crowned Grand Champion of the 1st Annual TUPPS Brat Eating Contest,” the website reads. “The winner will receive a trophy and a prize package from TUPPS Brewery.”
