Composers and librettists should send in a 15 to 20 minute long segment in any language. The news release said that the pieces can only use up to six singers and a solo piano accompaniment and must not have been presented publicly except for workshop or school presentations. Participants can come from North, Central and South America, but can only submit one work for the showcase to the online portal which gives the participants a guarantee of blind submission. In order to submit their works, participants need to contact frontiers@fwopera.org for submission information.

Librettists and composers must attend the rehearsal period from May 2 to 11. The news release said that round trip travel and lodging will be provided. They will also be in residence during the showcase, help with final rehearsals and give post-performance discussions with audience members and panelists. Participants will also get a recording of their work and receive feedback via private meetings with the jury panel. The panel will also included collaborative partners to help with long-term development.

The goal of Frontiers is to seek out future works for FWOpera’s alternate venue series Opera Unbound which is focused on contemporary works that are socially conscious and culturally-relevant topics.
