There is a new baby at the Fort Worth Zoo.

A 185-pound reticulated giraffe calf was born on June 8.

The new male calf and his mother, Kala, will be a part of the Fort Worth Zoo’s African Savanna exhibit which will open in 2018. This exhibit is the first to open as a part of the Fort Worth Zoo’s A Wilder Vision campaign.

According to a news release, this new exhibit will allow visitors to feed the giraffes while also getting to see them living with other animal species such as ostriches and zebras. To find out more about the Fort Worth Zoo’s African Savanna exhibit click here

According to a news release, the calf still does not have a name, and he weighed 185 pounds and was about 6 feet tall at birth. When he is fully grown he should be about 18 feet tall and weigh around 3,000 pounds. The calf should be named in the next few weeks.

Reticulated giraffes are distinguished by their markings which are rectangular and chestnut-brown. This species is housed by the Fort Worth Zoo and is native to the savannas in Africa.
