Gut Check: Why Women with Chronic Constipation Feel Stuck [Infographic]

(BPT) – We all have to go when nature calls, but for approximately 35 million American adults living with a condition called chronic idiopathic constipation, or CIC, that isn’t always easy. Idiopathic means the cause of the constipation is unknown. People with CIC experience symptoms like abdominal pain and bloating over a long period of time. A national survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of Shire, now part of Takeda, assessed the impact of CIC on patients’ daily lives, and unmet needs related to its management — revealing how and why many women with CIC feel stuck, and what many GIs believe may be an important approach to managing the condition.
