Mariachi Espuelas de Plata from Fort Worth ISD’s North Side High School won the 2017 national championship at the Jose Hernandez Mariachi National in Los Angeles, this past weekend.
The North Side group is quickly gaining a reputation across the country. They were awarded a First Division rating from each of the judges in this year’s state UIL competition.
In 2014, the group performed at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall and received a resounding standing ovation. And at an impromptu concert in the middle of Times Square even the local police officers were dancing to the music.
The ensemble is under the direction of Ramon Nino.
