On the desk of Michael Tothe, Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial

Michael Tothe is “jammed.” It’s understandable. The Crowne Plaza Invitation Colonial Tournament is days away. Yet his desk doesn’t necessarily reflect such impending crazy busyness. It’s clear that Tothe is an office user – his work extends well beyond the desk, which explains the charitable organization box behind him, the big giveaway box in front of him and the two sets of golf clubs in the corner (not that he ever gets a chance to pick them up).

Quote: “We’re pretty busy. I have a gift certificate for 100 bucks which I haven’t had a chance to cash in yet . . . but I will.”

Hodgepodge of binder folders. “My immediate go-to things I need. Player information, agents, our new caterer Tim Love, anything that needs to be paid, notes, things I’ve said let’s talk about 2015, tent vendor information. A gift certificate for 100 bucks which I haven’t cashed in yet … but I will.”

Near empty coffee cup No. 2. “Usually have one in the morning with my kids, one when I first get here, and if I need a boost, I’ll have one more during the day.”

Keyboard dust remover. “Like to spray my desk off every now and then.”

Micro Post-It Notes. “We have a 50-page budget, so it helps to be able to earmark pages with some tabs.”

Notepad: Sent to him by the owner of a company that makes crates. “It’s a pad of paper on crates,” he said.

Golf clubs. In the corner. “My two sets of clubs I never use.” KISS homage with autographs: “I’m a huge Kiss fan.”

40 Under 40 Boots: Selected in 2008. “I keep the boots up there to remember.”

Football helmet. Didn’t play for alma mater Shorter University, a liberal arts college in Rome, Ga. Nor did he ever watch a game. “They didn’t have a team at the time.” Got a helmet anyway.

Wife Holly in championship form: A 2005 shot of Holly walking off the 18th green at the qualifying round of the Canadian Women’s Open in London, Ontario. Tothe was her caddie. “A great day,” he says.
