The Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth has been awarded a grant by Ronald McDonald House Charities to support an expanded Meals from the Heart program focused on the wellness and nutrition of families staying at the Fort Worth location.

The 2019 RMHC Remarkable Impact Grants went to 29 houses in the United States to enhance their depth of support and services through new or expanded family-centered initiatives for guest families.

The grant will enable the local organization to increase the number of meals served to families, eliminate waste, provide healthy meal planning, maintain kitchen inventory and allocate food to other local programs.

“We are thrilled to be a recipient of the RMHC 2019 Remarkable Impact Grant program. The expansion of our meals program will ensure that our families are receiving high-quality nutrition,” said Jennifer Johns, CEO of the Fort Worth Ronald McDonald House.

Critical to the success of the Remarkable Impact Grants program is the element of community engagement. Meals from the Heart is the signature group volunteer experience offered by the Fort Worth location and has proven to be a stellar way to engage the community in the mission, the organization said..

“Meal groups will receive more in-depth orientations and trainings, and meal prep information. I am confident community groups will immediately feel that they have made the one-on-one connections with families they strive for when seeking out volunteer opportunities,” said Johns.

The first step in the meal expansion will include the hiring of a Meals from the Heart coordinator, the organization said in a news release.

This individual will have kitchen management and food planning experience and will be critical to the growth and success of this program. The position is currently posted on the organization’s website, www.rmhfw.org/about/employment/.
