SMU Sexual Assault Survivor speaks at Tarrant County Sexual Abuse Advisory Council Annual Conference

The Women’s Center of Tarrant County is asking people to wear teal today (Friday, April 6) to show support for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which is recognized nationally in the month of April. The request – #TotallyTeal Day – coincides with the Tarrant County Sexual Abuse Advisory Council (TCSAAC) Annual Conference, held Lena Pope starting at 8 a.m.

The keynote speaker for this year’s conference will be Monika Korra, a former student athlete at SMU who was abducted by three men while leaving a party in Old East Dallas. She was robbed, raped, and dumped in Fair Park.

In her book, Kill the Silence: A Survivor’s Life Reclaimed, she writes about what happened immediately after the attack – with the hope of helping end the shame and silence associated with sexual assault.

Other breakout sessions for this year’s conference include: Case Studies, Human Trafficking, Ethics, and more.
