Stage West will premiere The Royal Society of Antarctica by Mat Smart Saturday, Aug. 26 at 8:00, and the production will run through Sunday, Sept. 24. Stage West would like to make all attendees aware that this show contains some strong language.

Mat Smart, the playwright, often writes about his hometown Naperville, Illinois and his travels across all the states and continents.

The Royal Society of Antarctica was inspired by his three-month stint working as a janitor at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, and won the 2015 Equity Jeff Award for Best New Work in Chicago.

The play follows Dee, the only person ever to have been born at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, who lost her mother during a white-out. Dee now works as a janitor on “The Ice,” hoping to learn something, anything about herself, about her mother. But she learns that sometimes answers are only met with more questions.

An opening night reception will follow the Saturday, Aug. 26, performance.

Performance times will be Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. with Friday and Saturday tickets at $35 and Thursday and Sunday tickets at $31. There will be discounts for seniors, students and members of the military.

Additionally, food service is available 90 minutes prior to performances with a reservation, which can be made through the Box Office by calling (817) 784-9378 or visiting www.stagewest.org.
