Texas: 6 finalists named in Cliburn competition

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Six finalists have been named in the 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Texas.

Organizers in Fort Worth late Tuesday announced the finalists are American Sean Chen, Fei-Fei Dong of China, Vadym Kholodenko of the Ukraine, Nikita Mndoyants of Russia, Beatrice Rana of Italy and Tomoki Sakata of Japan.

The final round begins Thursday. Award winners will be announced Sunday.

Thirty contestants from 13 countries have taken part in the competition that’s held every four years and showcases the world’s best pianists.

Cliburn died in February at age 78 at his Fort Worth home after battling bone cancer.
