DALLAS — The University of North Texas System Board of Regents unanimously elected Carlos Munguia (Dallas) as Chairman and Melisa Denis (Southlake) as Vice Chair, following the conclusion of outgoing Chair Laura Wright’s outstanding six-year term of leadership. Munguia, who previously served as vice chairman of the board, will step into the role of chairman as the UNT System continues advancing its mission to serve North Texas through exceptional education, cutting-edge research, and community-focused impact. The two newly elected leaders will preside over their first quarterly meeting on Nov. 13 and will help shape the Board’s strategic direction and governance in support of the mission of the System’s three institutions.
As chairman, Munguia will preside over all Board meetings, appoint committee members, and guide governance priorities across the UNT System. “I am honored to serve as chairman to help lead the UNT System at such a pivotal time,” Munguia said. “We have extraordinary momentum across our campuses where we are developing talent, driving innovation, uplifting communities, and building a stronger future for our region.”
As vice chair, Denis will support the chairman in leading the Board’s work to ensure leadership continuity and help advance the UNT System’s mission and strategic priorities.
The UNT System serves more than 50,000 students and employs over 14,000 faculty and staffacross North Texas. With the new chairman and vice chair both distinguished UNT alumni, the Board’s leadership reflects a deep commitment to the communities it serves and the continued advancement of excellence in education, research, and student success.
