Cass Street takes new name after former Dunbar HS basketball coach

Cass Street will be renamed “Robert Hughes Street” after the winningest high school basketball coach in the nation, former Dunbar High School coach Robert Hughes, Sr., according to a news release.

The street name will formally change Saturday, when the new street sign is unveiled. The event will take place at 10 a.m. at Dunbar High School, 5700 Ramey Ave.

Cass Street is on the east side of Dunbar, between Ramey Avenue and Fitzhugh Avenue.

Hughes, Fort Worth City Councilwoman Gyna M. Bivens and Board of Education First Vice President Christene C. Moss plan to attend. Bivens and fellow councilman Jungus Jordan proposed changing the street name after receiving requests by several Dunbar alumni.
