Communities In Schools hires VP of development

Communities In Schools of Greater Tarrant County Inc. has hired Cory Henderson as its vice president of development, the organization announced.

Henderson is a native of Beaumont, and comes to Communities in Schools from the Recovery Resource Council where he was director of development. He also worked in donor relations at the United Way of Tarrant County.

Henderson is a political science graduate of Texas Christian University. His community involvement includes Leadership Fort Worth’s Leading Edge program and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, as well as various volunteer District Six council appointments in Fort Worth, the organization said in a news release.

Henderson’s addition to the staff team comes as Mike Steele, founding president and chief executive officer, announced his May retirement. Lindsey Garner, M.P.A and C.F.R.E, has been named Steele’s replacement.

Steele will be honored at the organization’s 25th anniversary fundraising gala entitled “Taking Flight – Helping Students Achieve New Heights” on Friday May 12 at Ridglea Country Club.

Communities In Schools of Greater Tarrant County is currently placed in 57 schools across nine Tarrant County school districts, serving students identified by their schools as most at-risk of dropping out.
